6 Simple Ways to Get More Money when Selling your Home
Selling Your Home or Cottage? You’ve decided to sell your home but you don’t know where to start. I’m here to help!
I’m happy to share my years of experience in real estate with you so that you can make your home more appealing to buyers when it hits the market. These tips are simple, inexpensive, and will make a big impact when selling your home!
Make it Sparkle
It is a fact that clean homes sell faster and for more money. Getting your home as clean as possible is absolutely critical. I have seen buyers walk into a home that is not clean or staged and the difference in a buyer’s reaction is night and day. The entrance, kitchen and bathrooms deserve special attention – they should be immaculate! Daily vacuuming and dusting will pay off.
Less Is More
First things first, remove the clutter! Taking the time to declutter will truly make all the difference when presenting your home to potential buyers. By removing any clutter, you’re creating a clean slate for buyers to fully see the space and imagine themselves in it. Focus on removing knick-knacks, personal photos, pet beds, toys, and tidying up your bookcases, shelves, and countertops. If you’re ever unsure about an item just remember… less is more!
Painting Time
Now that your home is decluttered, it’s time for paint! A fresh coat of paint breathes life into any home and it’s an inexpensive way to make a huge impact. Just because you love your hot pink feature wall, doesn’t mean the potential buyer will. When choosing a new colour, go with a neutral shade such as white or light grey. This will appeal to the masses and brighten your home.
Check the View
This one is easy and doesn’t take much to do… clean your windows! If your windows are clear and free of smudges, it will help draw the buyer’s eye to the outdoors. If you have a lake view, this is key! The last thing you want is a potential buyer to be distracted from your beautiful view because of your dirty windows.
Check Outside
Now that the buyer’s attention is on the outdoors, make sure you set aside an afternoon to clean up your yard. Show that you’re a caring homeowner by making the effort to tidy up not just the inside of your home, but the exterior as well. This includes raking, weeding and mulching, and if you’re feeling ambitious, adding a nice planter to your front porch. Don’t forget is you have a sandy waterfront area, give the sand a quick rake and put a planter with bright flowers on your dock.
Say it With Flowers
Last but not least, stop by your local floral shop and pick up some fresh flowers to add a touch of nature to your home. Not a fan of flowers? Why not try a new plant? Adding neutral greenery is an easy and inexpensive way to spruce up the look of your home without overwhelming the buyer.
Now that you’ve got the inside scoop, you’re all set to get your home ready to sell! Selling your home can be an emotional time, but stay positive and focus on cleaning and decluttering your home not just for potential buyers but also for yourself and for the next chapter in your life.
